Wollongong
week #12
Hey yous!
And Happy Mother's day to all the mum's out there!
So, not
much this week. But Tuesday we held our missionary FHE and it had a better turn
out. We taught about the Atonement using the donut analogy "Who wants a
donut?" and making the same person do 5 push-ups for each person, even if
it was for the donut they didn't want. Christ has paid the price for each of us
(pushups) so we might as well use this incredible gift (the donut) he has given
us of his Atonement. Life isn't worth trying to do the pushups on our own
either, let him help us, etc. etc. etc.
Wednesday
we met with Pam Cutner, a less active that is super keen to come back right now
and she wanted a priesthood blessing before a surgery. Her even more less-active
mum was there, and went on this rant about women and the priesthood, and I just
happened to have a copy of Elder Oaks talk from last conference, printed out
and on me. She read it and LOVED it. How good are the tender mercies of the
Lord and the words of our modern day prophets and apostles?!
Then we
headed HOME.... to Canberra! My area of ya know... just half of my mission haha
It was so great driving without a GPS and everything. We were there one hour
early before dinner and I managed to have some Samoan Cocoa and scare the
living daylights out of some members as I knocked on their doors to "use a
toilet" #typical And then we had a feed at the Filimuaua's. Their less
active daughter I worked with heaps even skipped her pool team's final
tournament because she was told I was coming. But then I was so confused when
she said Hi, and then left. But to my utmost surprise, as we were heading out,
there was a cake, with candles all lit up making "21" in the front
room with everyone singing Happy Birthday. It was so tender. And I totally lost
it. Allergies... right Dad?!
Then
great zone conference with the Canberra and South Coast Zones. We met our new
mission president and wife, Pres. and Sister Palmer. They are so incredible and
fired up about the work. Great training. I love that the Lord is putting
referrals in our path's everyday. (For example, right now at the library I'm
sitting next to a man who is doing family history... I gave him a card, got his
number and shared about the restoration, BOOM.) So I am so pumped to continue
to find, and be an open my mouth missionary (it's harder than ya think ya'll,
even for how much I might talk) and see all the miracles the Lord has in store
for his children here in Australia. Then before the long drive back, we swung
by the Normans. It was so great. My favorite part member/less active miracle
family.
Then on
the way home our GPS totally led us a stray. We were on the very top of Mt.
Keira, it was almost 9:00, near the summit, with random graffiti road blocks
all in the way, looked like a murder scene. Google map Mt. Keira... you'll
understand haha!
Then
after arriving back in Wollongong safe and sound we met with Amy the next
morning. She is currently praying about her own baptismal date. Still super
keen. Although she has been setting baptismal dates for the last 10 years or
so!!! We had a great lesson. But she had heaps of questions surrounding deep
doctrine, so it was kind of like walking on eggshells but all is good. She is
still constantly texting us, which is a good problem to have!
This
weekend we were trying to knock out all the potential and former investigators
we have not yet contacted. And not much luck. But planted a better impression
for those currently living there, even if they are not interested (I hope ).
But our neighbor and his mate were totally drunk and came up to all of us and
shook our hands and liked our American accents... I was super offended, as I
feel like I sound very Australian now...
Oh and
the eating healthy... well we had a week and a half of the "great
apostasy" because our scale's battery died. But now the scale has been
restored. And we again feel accountable.
Sunday
was so good. The elder's who only teach Bible Bashers (so dumb and a waste of
time in my opinion because you can't feel the spirit) had one come to church,
that was interesting... But it was a great day. We taught our less active lady
and her daughter from Africa that freaked out about remarriage on us a few
weeks back. But get this... we got 2 referrals for other African families from
her! And one can speak Kinyarwanda!
And that
night we joined the "brotherhood" at Mama Perusco's. I had a shot
glass of "Dragon's blood" aka chili syrup that is a 10++ on a hot
scale of 1-10. My mouth was on FIRE!
Heaps of
Love!
