Wollongong
Week 11
Hey yous!
Ok, first and foremost, just peeked at an email! Troy and Rae had their baby
girl... and they actually named her Kennedy! My favorite and now active couple
in Belconnen. She came really early but is healthy as! :)
Also, we
have a new mission President. President Lew is being flown home on an ambulance
jet to Utah for more ongoing care. Please keep him and Sister Lew in your
prayers. I love them so much, but I know this is all part of the Lord's plan so
we just have to trust in Him.
President Lew, thanks for being the most loving
and humble man and seeing the best in all of us and for your desire for us all
to grow and succeed and become preach my gospel missionaries. Sister Lew thanks
for your smiles, laughter and contagious love and enthusiasm! :) We now have
President Palmer who served as a mission president in Spokane Washington a few
years back and who is from New Zealand. I look forward to meeting him and his
wife at a zone conference we will be having with the... get this... Canberra
Zone! (I'm going HOME!) haha We will probably spend the night which means I
might be able to sneak in a few visits to see the newborn Kennedy and have a
Samoan feed... or two ;)
So the
rest of last week....
Monday:
While cleaning the flat a door to door volunteer came by, we related actually
quite a bit, and well.. shared the gospel of course!!
Tuesday:
Taught Lavinia and her 8-year-old daughter, who is now in her custody, and who
she wants to be baptized. She also wants one of her less active boys to come
back to church and be able to perform that baptism. Super exciting! Then Amy
has been really flaky with us but we had THE BEST lesson with her (in maccas...
whats up with these fast food locations where the spirit can actually be so
strong?!) She just NEEDS the gift of the Holy Ghost. So bad. John 14, Matthew
11:28-30, Mosiah 24:14-15, etc. all the burdens we have are so bearable with
the gospel. Even being the first one to join the church and being a single mum,
the gospel will change and bless her life so much and her kids will look back
as I have and "do not doubt, for their mothers knew it." Then this
week for the FHE we missionaries put on, we were on the food. We made
Burritos... for like 40 people. But lame turn out, unfortunately. But I made
yummy like Cafe Rio rice like a lady in my last area taught me (lime and
cilantro!) Australia really does not know how to do Mexican. And Sister Hala
made my favorite Tongan drink, Otai (its like milk, cream, and a whole bunch of
fruit)!
Wednesday:
We went to send talks to Amy and burn her a CD of the articles of faith and
other favorite hymns and primary songs for her and the kids (trying to invite
that spirit as much into her life as possible pre-baptism/confirmation) and we
caught two elders red handed emailing not on p-day. It was a funny rebuke later
on. haha But went to teach our super fun Plan of Salvation lesson at a park
over looking the ocean to Amy and Kids. We had a veil they had to go through
from Pre-mortal life to earth, climb steps of faith, repentance, baptism, holy
ghost and then run around a loop for endure to the end, limbo under our judgment
bar etc. It was super fun and the kids seemed to enjoy it almost as much as I
did :)
Thursday:
dropped off Stake Conference invites all day! But all the time driving made me
realize how much the Lord has been guided my life since day one! Even like Dad
running into that one doc at work that convinced him it was safe to go to
Rwanda, where I had the desire planted in my heart to not only be a nurse but
to serve a mission, or suggesting to go on a study abroad and how London was
the only one that worked which helped prep me for living in a foreign country,
some of the similar Aussie culture and meeting so many great people that continue
to support and influence my life for the better, or just always making me
always know I wanted to go to BYU, where my testimony and knowledge of the
gospel increased so much to help me be a more effective teacher in the field,
etc. His plan really is incredible.
Friday:
Just a normal day of DTM, stalking people, sports night, and this week’s
homemade ice-cream at the Perusco's was a delicious pumpkin pie! :)
Saturday:
drove to Campelltown for stake conference, our stake has heaps of Polynesians,
unlike our ward. I miss them and their strong testimonies and stronger voices.
The Samoan choir almost blew off the roof of the chapel, no jokes.
Sunday:
More stake conference, our stake Presidency is so funny here. They are all like
brothers just cracking jokes up there! And then on the drive back we saw a
koala crossing sign!
Monday:
didn't email because of Zone Training and Zone Pday. But in the training, one
of the older senior couples called me out in front of everyone about how people
need to be more enthusiastic and how he doesn't even know me but I am the most
enthusiastic person he has meet and how we wants to know what pill I take in
the morning... haha And then for zone pday we had a yummy sausage sizzle and
then us sisters went down heaps of stairs to the beach and took some fun pics!
And then we played footy (rugby without tackles) but it was good - they split
up each sister and made us captains and we had to touch the ball in each run.
So as you
can see, the work is progressing. We have pushed back Amy's baptismal date but
things all work out in his timing. Also, please watch the "Because of
Him" video if you haven't already (on lds.org or mormon.org) it made my soul literally race! I
downloaded it on my usb and we just listen to the track in the car 24/7. Please
post it on my facebook as well Mum, I want everyone to see it! Even if Easter
is already over :) Because of Him, I am so blessed. I love you all heaps! Have
a great week!
Love,
Sister Rushing :)
